Movie Review : Tropic Thunder

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments

“Wow” …That was what I said about 20 times in the theater while watching Tropic Thunder, and the “wow”s were for many different reasons- but all shocking. First, Robert Downey Jr. gives an amazingly hilarious performance as Kirk Lazarus, an Australian born actor turned black actor through a medical procedure, and they really push the envelope with his jokes. Also, as much as I wanted to hate it, Tom Cruise gave the performance of a lifetime. It might be his best role ever, and exactly what his career needed right now. And the film is really funny in a lot of parts. Ben Stiller does an amazing job directing the film, but as expected it’s kind of cheezy and you have to want to laugh or you might think it gets a little too silly. But if you love Ben Stiller flicks then you will love this one. Any other reviews out there?

New Movie Friday! Tropic Thunder is out!

August 15th, 2008 · No Comments

In an obvious prediction, I think Dark Knight may finally not come in number one this weekend with th release of highly buzzed Ben Stiller film, Tropic Thunder. The trailer makes this film look hilarious, and definitely pushes many envelopes considering Robert Downey Jr. plays a black man, and that the Special Olympics has already been protesting the film for the use of the “R” word (aka Retard for all you mentally challenged out there). So I will definitely be seeing this film soon! haha I will drop a review once i see it, but in the meantime check out the trailer below.

Also in theaters is horror flick Mirrors, which stars Amy Smart among others. Looks o.k. from the trailer but hard for me to get in the horror mood this time of year- but that’s jus me. Also the new Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated/CGI film is released- which just proves Star Wars will never die! Neither will their fans. It looks entertaining, and I would love to hear anyone’s opinion if they see it.

Smallz and Raskind shoot Justin Timberlake for cover

August 12th, 2008 · 1 Comment

For all you Justin Timberlake Fans, check out this recent cover of him shot by photo duo Smallz and Raskind. I think its a simple, but beautifully shot cover. Personally, I think Justin is a great actor, but the new movie he is in- The Love Guru - just wasn’t my cup of tea… well at least not close enough for me to see in theaters. If anyone saw the movie and loved it, please drop me a comment review. All I know is Justin looks hilarious on all the billboards posted in LA with that fake porn-stache.

Dark Knight sets more records this weekend

July 28th, 2008 · No Comments

With the largest 10 day gross of any film to date, Dark Knight brought in an additional $75 million this weekend to bring the grand total to a whopping $314 million overall. This shatters the previous record of Pirates of the Caribbean which took 16 days to surpass the $300 million mark, and also beats last year’s Shrek 2′s record of the biggest 2nd weekend opening of $72 million. I saw the film today, and will post a review soon. But, I highly suggest you see it in theaters because i don’t think it will be the same on DVD. Here’s how the rest of the top 10 rounded out….

2. Step Brothers $ 30 million
3. Mamma Mia! $ 17.9 million
4. The X-Files: I Want to Believe $ 10.2 million
5. Journey to the Center of the Earth $ 9.41 million
6. Hancock $ 8.2 million
7. Wall-E $ 6.35 million
8. HellBoy 2: The Golden Army $ 4.93 million
9. Space chimps $ 4.38 million
10. Wanted $ 2.73 million

And check out this Details Magazine cover featuring Dark Knight star Christian Bale. Steven Klein photographed this when I was still working with his agent, and I must say the rest of the story inside is incredible too. Go buy one if you can!

A Sunday Story

July 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

For a change of pace, I’m going to blog about a real life experience that I had earlier this week at LA Criminal court. And for all of you who think I was the criminal- think again!! About 2-3 weeks ago in my office building on Wilshire, our receptionist was accosted and robbed in the elevator after fetching a bunch of coffee’s for everyone in the office. The crazy bum who jacked her Chanel purse took off down the stairs, while myself and 2 other guys in my office followed in pursuit. Long story short, we got the purse back and cornered the guy until the police came and arrested him. However, in the process this cracked out transient bit me on my forearm, and broke skin - so i bled. Bad move for me considering the crazy fool had all sorts of nasty diseases- including Hep C, Tuberculosis and HIV. I was pretty freakin’ livid to say the least. So, when it came time to testify this week i did my duty- and just like in Law and Order, had to point the guy out while on the witness stand. Unfortunately for the criminal, it was his 3rd strike so he is going to jail for life. And on the bright side- he can’t attack anyone again- except for other criminals in jail. So… the moral of the story is- no purse is worth risking your life for- so leave it up to the police to fight crime! haha Enjoy the pics I took in court below….

New Movie Friday!

July 26th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Lots of new movies in theates to see this weekend! Especially if you haven’t had a chance yet this summer. Here’s a quick list of whats out… First, after 6 years since the last show, X-Files is back in theaters. Personally, I don’t even remember one episode from the show- even though I was a fan. But six years people! Let’s try to speed things up in the future. And from what i’ve heard on the streets is mixed reviews. So, if someone sees it, please let me know your thoughts. But if you like comedy, director Adam McKay is back with another Will Ferrel led film, Step Brothers. I saw Will and John C Reilly on Jimmy Kimmel this week, and I must say as stupid as this movie looks, it also looks as equally funny. Especially if you like the brand of comedy Will Ferrel brings to the table- and i’m a big fan. Hopefully I will find some time to check this one out soon. But there’s also a slew of films still in thaters from previous weeks, including Dark Knight, Mamma Mia, Hancock, Journey to the Center of the Earth, WALL-E, Hellboy 2, Wanted, Get Smart, Space Chimps and a few more…

So go see a movie and drop a comment review and let me know how good or bad- or mediocre you thought it was. Until tomorrow….

Need an animal actor? Then call an Animal Wrangler

July 20th, 2008 · No Comments

When you are producing film, music video’s or photography sometimes you will be called upon to find well trained animals for the shoots. These animals can range from a Tiger, to elephants and leopards, exotic birds, or even insects. To rent one (or a few) of these animals for a day can be very pricey because you will technically be paying for the animal rental fee, the animal wrangler fee, and most likely a delivery charge (thanks to our high gas prices). There are a few great animal wranglers in the Los Angeles area that I have used for productions in the past, but from my personal suggestions I would use A2Z Animals. (www.a2zanimals.com). They have a beautiful tiger (as seen w/ Sienna Miller on the cover of Flaunt Magazine), 2 amazingly well trained elephants (one painted a picture for me), as well as monkeys, dogs, wolves and a rhino! There is also Hollywood Animals which has beautiful leopards and a zebra, and many other companies you can track down off of LA411.com .

Just this past week I was asked to find beautiful white doves for an undisclosed cover shoot w/ Hayden Pannettiere and photo duo Smallz and Raskind. And with only one day notice. Luckily I came across the number of animal trainer Sarah Clifford from Animal Savvy, who was able to provide the perfect doves needed. Check out an image of them below…

New Movie Friday! Batman is back!

July 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Thats right all you Batman fans, its back! And most likely better than ever. At least that’s what the fans are expecting, and according to online sales, they are right. Online service MovieTickets said 87% of their Wednesday sales were for Dark Knight, and Fandango said that 94% of its recent sales were also for the film. Thats insane! So, unless you have tickets already, don’t plan on walking up to a theater to check it out. Not even IMAX! The 94 IMAX theaters in are pretty much already sold out for the weekend. Might this be the biggest film opening ever? Monday we will know for sure… But also new to theaters this weekend is musical turned movie Mamma Mia! This film stars Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard. So if you’re a fan of the musical and you want to relive that moment, then check it out. Other than that, I suggest seeing something that came out in previous weeks, especially if you can’t get into Batman.

Also, there will be lots of cool new pics and content coming soon! Keep checking back for more!~

Andy Dick- the mugshot that conquers all

July 17th, 2008 · No Comments

So, my blog hits a new low today with this post, but here it is anyways…

Andy Dick isn’t a huge celebrity anymore, but this is just too good to pass up. Andy was arrested earlier this week for sexual assault or something like that on a 17 yr old girl, as well as urinating in public. Not a shocker for anyone who knows Andy, but still a surprise he actually went to jail. So I have posted the mugshot below, and as an added bonus, I’ve attached a small video clip of Andy after a long day of drinking, relaxing eating a cheeseburger. Enjoy, and try not to throw up in your mouth during the video.

SAG Strike still possible…?

July 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment

As of today, July 14th 2008 the Screen Actors Guild and the Producers have yet to come to an agreement. Might this be strike two for this year? Nobody in the industry wants another strike, not even the actors- well the working actors. So it will be interesting to see how this all works out in the next week. The Producers will probably stick with their $250 million dollar offer to SAG, which includes increases in minimums for actors, some advance in new media and retention in clip content for productions. Another strike would force people in the mid west to exercise because of lack of new content, so lets all do our best to help America stay fat.
